Finance Assistant Role Profile

Plymouth City Council are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, committed and hardworking Finance Assistant on the Integrated Commissioning team so, if you are someone who wants to contribute to a positive working environment and is enthusiastic in taking on new opportunities, we would welcome your application.

Although the title of the post is Finance Assistant, the role is very much that of an Assistant Accountant and, as such, is very involved with budgets, forecasting and providing support to budget managers.

The successful applicant will be a key member of the team working closely alongside the Finance Business Partners and Principal Technical Accountant, as well as supporting the rest of the Integrated Finance team.

You will be heavily involved in a variety of tasks including:
• monthly monitoring of budgets
• forecasting expenditure to year end
• setting budgets for future years, based on information provided by budget managers
• closing of accounts
• statistical returns, along with
• any other finance duties as required.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide effective support and challenge to colleagues, ensuring that the services are provided with accurate and useful information to enable decision making.

They will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and attend meetings as and where necessary.

A working knowledge of the areas would be beneficial but not essential, however either an AAT qualification or experience of working in an accounting environment is.

As well as working on budgets, the successful candidate will also contribute to reports where applicable, as well as coming up with innovative solutions to automate areas where possible within the current workload. Therefore a good working knowledge of excel and word are essential in this role, include the use of excel formulas including pivot tables, vlookups, linking documents and others.
