Natural Infrastructure Officer Role Profile

 

Are you passionate about working with people to enable food growing in urban spaces? Do you value the role allotments can play in healthy green cities? Do you have the skills to run an allotment service across Plymouth’s 37 sites and 1750 plots?  

 

We need to recruit an Allotment Officer to our Green Estate team to job share as part of our service succession plan. This team sits in the Environmental Planning division which delivers a wide ranging environmental portfolio of projects across the city. 

 

This role will lead the delivery of the allotment service for the Council and working alongside colleagues and partners, to develop and improve the service whilst meeting expected customer standards.

 

The main activities include customer communication, finance/ budgeting, monitoring and maintaining tenant and site standards, data management and community stewardship.  

 

We are looking for a person who has a strong background in working with people with experience and knowledge of land management and community projects - particularly in allotments and food growing.   

 

This person will need to be/have:

· an excellent communicator to be able to confidently liaise with tenants, Associations and other stakeholders

· able to work independently and a part of a team with the confidence to evaluate situations and make clear decisions in line with allotment legislation and local policy

· A good awareness of food growing practices

· Organised and self-motivated

· Experience of IT systems, databases and administrative processes

· Good financial budget management

· Experience of working with a diverse range of people/ customers/ contractors and dealing with sometimes challenging situations

· You will be able to play your part in continuing the development of our Environmental Planning team and partnerships. 

· Comfortable working in a hybrid role both indoors and outdoors

 

This role is suitable for flexible working subject to the needs of the service.
