Natural Infrastructure Officer - role profile

At Plymouth City Council, we are investing in our natural environment and within the Environmental Planning division the Green Estate team is responsible for promoting, protecting and enhancing Plymouth’s natural infrastructure in a manner that delivers maximum benefits for people and nature.  

The primary role of the team is to develop and keep under review the overall management strategies for the city’s green estate in order to realise maximum benefits for the environment and health as well as deliver financially sustainable models of management. The Green Estates team leads on delivering the Plan for Trees as well as other exciting and innovative environmental/community based projects and programmes - including the Plymouth Tree Challenge,  EU funded Green Minds, Future Parks Accelerator programme.    

We are looking for an exceptional individual with considerable experience in project management, programme delivery, innovation and environmental management to support the development of Plymouth’s Green Estates team. This recently formed team will lead the council in establishing new ways of working and delivery mechanisms for the long term management of natural infrastructure assets in partnership with others internal and external to the Council.

The post will require the individual to show experience of project management, budget management, project delivery and evaluation, effective communication, strong team working ethos and a background in environmental management. Delivery of innovative projects will be part of the role so it’s essential to have experience of partnership working, arboriculture and tree planting, community engagement, ecological monitoring and data analysis. Experience with operational management of the green estate including, all aspects of trees, wildflower meadows, horticulture and food growing is considered strongly desirable.
