The Service
Street Scene and Waste Services ensures the city’s environment can be used and enjoyed by everyone. It delivers a range of highly visible and valued front line services that touch every part of the city. The service provides waste and recycling collection and disposal services and ensures that our streets and green spaces are kept safe and clean. With over 200 staff and a £17 million budget the service is vital to the city achieving its vision to be one of Europe’s most vibrant waterfront cities where an outstanding quality of life is enjoyed by everyone.

If so, we have a new opportunity within our senior management team for an experienced leader who will help shape and modernise the Street Scene and Waste Service.
The role
This role will have responsibility for the strategic
direction for the service and are critical to our ambitious plans for the
service. The post holder will work
closely together to provide visible and cohesive leadership as the service
continues improving and modernising in line with the Council’s priorities to be
a welcoming, green and sustainable city that cares about the environment. It is an exciting time in Plymouth to bring innovation
to this critical front line service.
The
focus of this role is to ensure that the core operational activities including household
waste collection and disposal, commercial waste, street cleansing activities
and services for the maintenance of our green spaces are carried out in line
with legislation and are ready for the future.
This
role offers you the opportunity to manage complex change projects, working with
large budgets and delivering within a performance and safety focused culture ensuring
that service productivity and efficiency is maximised. You will have a full working knowledge of appropriate
legislation and policy and of good practice, particularly in relation to
developing and implementing innovative policies and delivering strategies for the
management of operations. You will need to be educated to a degree level in a
relevant discipline and/or associated membership of a recognised institute or
body.
