Knowledge Exchange Officer - Role Profile

An exciting opportunity has arisen to form a new team to deliver the Marine Business Technology Centre, located in the Oceansgate Enterprise Zone in Plymouth. The Marine Business Technology Centre will provide a new and dedicated service to marine businesses to enable them to test and develop new technologies in the sea principally in and around Plymouth Sound. The Centre will also offer a coordination of innovation services for small and medium sized businesses.

The Marine Business Technology Centre project is a collaboration between Plymouth City Council and knowledge partners from Plymouth University, University of Exeter, Plymouth Marine Laboratory and the Sir Alister Hardy Foundation for Ocean Science. This new project is funded through the European Regional Development Fund and will deliver business led innovation in marine technology within the Heart of the South West region. In collaboration with project partners you will be undertaking a knowledge exchange service for Devon based SMEs.

The Knowledge Exchange Officer will operate at the interface of businesses and the expert knowledge base. They will help businesses access the expertise and facilities necessary to address key technology challenges, so new products and services can be developed in collaboration. The KEO will undertake organisational needs analyses and broker support where appropriate. They will be required to develop a detailed appreciation of the skills and assets housed at the various research organisations and they will build networks of marine sector small and medium sized businesses. They will work closely with project beneficiaries to raise awareness and promote the businesses and their innovations nationally and internationally.

This role will be based in the Oceansgate site: Plymouth City Council, Vivid Approach, Plymouth, PL1 4RW and will require frequent travel across Devon and occasionally further afield.
