An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Building Control Officer to join the Building Control Team in Plymouth City.  

 

Plymouth is a vibrant waterfront city and well known for its rich maritime heritage. The city boasts a diverse range of newly constructed and historic buildings as well as picturesque coastal topography in close proximity to many beaches and only a short journey from the Dartmoor National Park. Projects in the teams portfolio include the historic Barbican harbour, Plymouth Hoe and the Royal William Yard which boast many listed buildings, a large shopping centre,  mixed use commercial buildings, all varieties of residential accommodation including high rise/student accommodation/volume housing as well as established urban districts, educational buildings including a large university campus, a large regional hospital and HM Naval base situated on the River Tamar.    

 

The successful candidate will be offered a funded and comprehensive structured training programme to support them through the LABC validation process together with CPD as we work towards the introduction of the pending Building Safety Bill. There will also be the opportunity be part of the multi-disciplinary Safety Advisory Group to promote good practice and regulatory safety governance at our city’s football and rugby stadiums.  

 

The ideal candidate should have good communication skills, be able to work in a dynamic team, have extensive experience in Building Control, be proficient in carrying out a variety of site visits, checking plans for compliance with relevant regulations and attending Dangerous Structures. Membership of a professional body such as the CIOB, CABE or RICS is also essential.  

 

Flexible hours and some remote working is offered to promote a healthy work/life balance and an additional payment of £3,500 is offered to assist with any initial relocation costs.
