An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Collections Team at The Box, Plymouth. We are looking to appoint a Curator with experience in managing Natural History collections.

 

The Box is Plymouth’s new cultural hub, a museum, gallery and archive housed in a brand new £47m development in the heart of Britain’s Ocean City.

 

With the UK's first National Marine Park on the horizon, now is an exciting time to be working in Plymouth. Join us and help connect our amazing collections to our growing audience locally, nationally and internationally.

 

This is a varied and exciting role where you will be responsible for the care and display of our natural history collection, managing the relocation of stored collections into our new building, improving catalogue information and answering public enquiries. You’ll also lead on our wonderful Mammoth Gallery, helping to ensure a quality visitor experience by rotating displays and loans regularly.

About you

 

You will have demonstrable experience of managing natural history collections in a museum context. Experience of working with spirit-preserved specimens is desirable You will be very organised and well able to manage projects

You will be a skilled communicator, able to advocate for your collection and get audiences excited about its many stories

You will have an entrepreneurial eye and be able to see and secure opportunities for partnership which benefit The Box and its collections

 

You will need a degree or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant subject area.

 

This role is suitable for flexible working subject to the needs of the service.
