Youth Support Worker Role Profile

 

1 x 25 hours a week permanent Youth Support Work position to join Community Connections Community Youth Team Service in Plymouth.

 

The Community Connections Service compromises Neighbourhood Regeneration, Community Safety and Community Youth Services. All have been brought together to create an innovative Community Connections Service.

 

Community Connections is a multi-disciplinary team, working across localities, with and in communities, creating a relationship with citizens so that they are encouraged and supported to be proactive with ours and other services, thus feeling more engaged and empowered to make sustainable changes.

 

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a passion for making a difference.

 

As a Youth Support Worker, your primary role will be strengthening the capacity of Targeted Detached Youth Work Team (Street Based Youth Work) as well as leading on issue based group work across variety of settings including education providers In addition, the position will work with young people and partners in a variety of citywide settings and will support the team in collaboration with key partners, including Safer Communities team, the police, Voluntary Community Sector (VCS), and statutory partners.

 

Specifically the role will focus on the following areas;

 

• Developing and delivering focused based group work to enable engagement and informal learning with young people in a variety of settings

• Liaising with education providers and other settings to enable collaborative working

• Direct face to face, Street Based work with young people in a variety of settings

• Engaging with vulnerable and challenging young people

• Supporting identifying and implementing positive diversion for young people

• Supporting the Detached Youth Team embracing new and dynamic methods of engaging young people and development of partnership work in a variety of settings

• Supporting the retention and development of volunteers and colleagues across wider relevant partnerships (i.e VCSE)

• Supporting the Team and partners in the development of a Trauma Informed City

 

You will have experience of successful youth work interventions, inclusive of both detached and group work, which have produced achievements for young people, in the context of national standards.

 

Along with being able to demonstrate good quality, youth work practice, while developing young people's participation.

 

Due to the nature of the role, the post will be required to work evenings and weekends.

 

Project work will include a range of activities including water-based activities, a confidence and ability to swim would be beneficial. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would also be desirable. It is desirable that you hold a JNC endorsed Professional Qualification/presently studying for JNC in Youth & Community Work, or hold a NVQ level 2 or 3 qualification in a related area and have English & Maths at Grade C or equivalent.
