We are truly excited about the future so if you want to be part of an innovative and high performing team, here’s your chance. We have created an exciting new opportunity: the Head of Culture and Employee Engagement.

This will include developing, implementing and evaluating the impact of cross-organisational strategies, plans, systems and processes in areas including learning and development. As Head of Culture & Employee Engagement you will also be the employee wellbeing lead for the organisation, ensuring that strategies are in place and resources are available to support all employees.

You will need:

  • A recognised HROD or L&D qualification and CIPD member status is essential
  • Experience of leading an organisational development function for a complex organisation, whether as a stand-alone practitioner or as a manager
  • Current  knowledge and understanding of organisational design techniques and approaches

  • Experience of developing and implementing wellbeing strategies and interventions, or a demonstrable passion to develop knowledge and experience in this area.
  • Experience of creating and delivering a range of organisational development interventions with proven business benefits.
  • Experience of managing culture change and leading on HROD projects with successful and timely implementation.

Our ambition

We are determined to make Plymouth City Council a great place to work. To create a place where everyone, whatever their background, has the opportunity to reach their potential and enjoy a good quality of life.

We want to build an organisation where employees feel valued, inspired and empowered to help us achieve our goals and provide the best services possible to our residents.

Plymouth’s HROD department has reshaped its services. We are realigning our service provision to put digital, learning and innovation at the heart of what we do. We have created 4 new functions – HR Consultancy, Culture and Employee Engagement, Health and Safety, and the HR Culture Partnering Team.

Our vision is to be a trusted professional partner, empowering our leaders, partners, members, managers and people to thrive and deliver better services for Plymouth. By joining the team, you will play a vital role in enabling all we do to have a positive impact by ensuring good practice is a given, that fairness and equality are at the heart of everything we do – in our communities and our workplace.

The Council is implementing new ways of working and hybrid working will apply to this role. You are likely to need to attend Plymouth sites as required to perform your role, working from home at other times.
