Democratic Advisor Role Profile

 

Plymouth City Council is looking to recruit a Democratic Advisor to provide high-level clerking and governance support to meetings of Plymouth City Council other bodies as required.

 

Working independently, you must be comfortable in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, as well as have a proven track record of successfully managing formal committee meetings and providing governance advice in a similar organisation.

 

In this high-profile environment, you can often read about work you’ve led on in the media on your way home. To thrive, you’ll need to be able to work quickly across a range of issues and relish a challenge.

 

You’ll also have excellent communication skills, and the ability to liaise with Councillors and senior staff with tact and diplomacy. An understanding of how committee meetings work in a local authority setting would be advantageous.

 

You must have a firm grasp of the use and application of IT systems, ideally including committee management software. You will be working in the Democratic Support team a dynamic working environment and professional development opportunities.

 

This role will be based at the Council House and Ballard House in Plymouth.

 

Staff are hybrid working in our offices and remotely dependent on role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

 

This job is ‘politically restricted’ under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

 

Candidates must have a minimum of GCSE (Grade A*- C) or equivalent in Maths and English and ‘A’ level, an intermediate ICSA or similar local government qualification.

 

This role is not suitable for flexible working due to the needs of the service.
