If you are then Plymouth City Council’s Community Outreach Team are looking for enthusiastic and energetic support worker apprentices to join their friendly teams.

 

Ever worked in care? Are you someone looking for a new direction in your career? Or have you left the care sector and looking to return?

This is a real opportunity for people who want to work as part of a wider team to support those who have a variety of needs that require direct support as well as working with people to maintain their independence at home and contribute to their wellbeing.

 

We are looking for people to work within a range of service areas to undertake a variety of tasks supporting adults with a range of different needs. 

 

 

Community Outreach Team

 

The role of Support Worker apprentice is to support the care management process, working to support adults with a variety of needs to promote independence, health, and wellbeing. The role includes supporting people to improve their quality of life, whilst encouraging the person to develop wider links within the community. The post holder will be responsible for signposting and facilitating involvement with a range of services and agencies via research, advice, information, and support in the local/wider community.

 

Working across the city, the worker will have responsibility to plan their own working day and draw up a plan on how best they can support the person they are allocated to support. 


You don’t need to have already worked in care, as full training and support is provided but you will already have some really important skills and understanding that you will be able to bring to these rewarding roles

These include:
·        Effective communication skills, verbal and written to build rapport with individuals and record and report on aspects of their health and well-being.
 ·       Good time management and organisational skills.
·        A reasonable understanding of the need for dignity, respect and sensitivity when working with vulnerable and older people
·        The ability to motivate and work with service users with a range of behaviours that at times may be challenging to manage

There are some physical requirements for the Vine day service for example being able to carry out personal care tasks with respect and dignity, and full training including, manual handling training, is provided.

  It is essential that you have the following:- 
·       
A good standard of literacy and numeracy skills.

·        Ability to work towards the Health and Social Care Diploma Level 3
·        A commitment to continuous professional development in accordance with National Care Quality Standards and Plymouth City Council’s training plan.  (Depending on position)
