Role Profile - Chief Service Officer (Cities of Service)

Plymouth City Council is in an exciting period of transformation with a strong commitment to serve our city as a brilliant co-operative council. As part of that transformation we are looking at innovative ways of putting people in control of services and engaging citizens to play a part in our vibrant waterfront city.

Plymouth has successfully bid to become a pioneer UK ‘City of Service’.  This Cabinet Office and Nesta sponsored initiative draws on the US-based Bloomberg model to mobilise volunteers in addressing major strategic City challenges. For Plymouth this is an opportunity, not only to deliver tangible benefits in partnership with volunteers, but to redefine and invigorate the culture around volunteering in our city, reshaping the way we do business, putting citizens at the heart of decision-making and helping people take control of their lives.

Reporting direct to the Chief Executive you will drive the programme for two of Plymouth’s local challenges; access to affordable and healthy food; and tackling fuel poverty, galvanising support and meeting clear outputs to deliver improvements in healthy eating and affordable warmth. Equally comfortable dealing with communities and strategic decision-makers, you will be innovative, energetic and have a passion for volunteering. Above all, you will be a self-starter who can effect change through persuasive influencing. A proven track record in managing multi-agency change and motivating real and virtual teams is therefore a must.
